Mrs. Swanson will give a broad outline of civilizations, invasions, and events in Mesopotamia. Leave space to add the details about each item.
With a partner, read text Ch. 2, sec 3 and 4 and "Cradle of Civilization" to research each topic on timeline.
Know this for each topic: what it is, why it's important, basic years, major contributions and important facts, important names and dates
Tuesday:
Finish notes on timeline
Short lecture on Hebrew culture; take notes
Look at archeological artifacts
Update vocab. list
Begin video "Return to Eden" if possible
Wednesday:
Watch "Return to Eden"
Take notes; what stories do various cultures share? Gilgamesh Hanging Gardens
Discuss video briefly.
Issues for Today: read "A Religious Reformer" and "Sumerian Religion" p. 34
Discuss this question: In Sumer, as in Egypt, rulers fulfilled important religious duties. How do religious values and institutions influence government? Past and present
Research assignment: details in class.

Thursday:
Free research
Write a thesis and then a tw0-page paper on your topic. Page 1 (or more)is your information; p. 2 your sources.
Evaluate web sources. See handout "Evaluating Web Sites"
Work in lab--high school wing
Friday:
Continue work on paper in lab.
