Buddhism definitions; read Wang Wei, respond to Analyzing 1-2, p. 231; do Analyzing Literature Worksheet, Understanding Buddhism; do Selection test on Wang Wei.
Buddhist nature poetry: see the models (The Hill, p. 230, Wang Wei; In the Mountains on a Summer Day, p. 236, Li Po; The Return of the Wanderers, p. 242, Tu Fu). Find an image in the community, photograph it, write a Buddhist nature poem to accompany the photo.
Spell/vocab quiz (Gil).
Greek history/literature; Homer and The Iliad: epic conventions, character motivations, stock epithets--read the Iliad Book I, respond to Interpreting 1-5 (not paragaphs).
The Iliad: the shield, ekphresis, the role of the gods--read the Iliad Book VI, write an example of ekphresis--the image inside a mirror: three paragraphs (thirty lines of verse if you choose verse).
