Title: Purple Shades of Me, 2D Mixed Media/Collage
This image is inspired from a photo I had taken of myself. My intention was to create an image of myself that represents me both visually and emotionally. I started the piece out by putting the image into photoshop and played with various filters so I could give it a monochromatic theme. I had chosen the color purple, because the meaning of the color means so many things: wisdom, creativity, independence, and pride. I drew it out onto a light pink tagboard. Then I painted different shades of purple onto strips of masking tape, which helped me show the different values of lights and darks within the piece. Next I ripped the tape into small pieces to form textures into the creation. In the end I went in with Prisma pencils to fill in the remaining details. My piece came from the inspiration of Picasso's "Blue Period"/"Rose Period", but with the color purple to help me shine through emotionally as an artist. Art is an easy way to express oneself, and this project really helped me shine through. It not only depicts a photo of myself, but the color itself helps describe who I am as an artist.
