Title: Las Aves de Frida, 2D Mixed Media/Collage

With this piece, I wanted to present my skills and love for art.
It is a portrait of Frida Kahlo wearing statement jewelry and a detailed shirt. In the background, there are origami birds pasted over an emerald green color.
I used value to create depth and contrast. I used color to create emphasis on Frida, and I used geometric shapes with the origami birds.
I chose to create something that fits my aesthetic. I included elements that I am familiar with and like to incorporate into my artwork.
For this piece, I drew a portrait of Frida Kahlo using the grid method. I then painted a watercolor background with a color that I found suitable. Finally, I drew and cut out origami birds on white paper, then pasted them onto my background.
I learned a lot about my own patience and abilities in making this artwork. I found that when I was able to branch out, and do something that was my own in the background, the piece meant so much more to me. Art is versatile, and it is important to do what you love when it comes to art.
