Title: Bloom, 2D Mixed Media/Collage

I wanted to experiment with using multiple mediums to create a cohesive work. I sought to challenge myself to paint a more difficult subject, and wanted to push my limits as an artist.
My piece includes a woman with colorful clothing and adorned with brightly colored hair and pieces of jewelry. On her head sits a magnificent floral headdress made out of fake flowers.
Varied texture between the paint and the flowers creates emphasis on the headdress and make it pop out from the background.
Diversity is important in the fine arts world, so I decided to paint a Tibetan woman wearing traditional clothes.
Using acrylic paint, glass glue, and silk flowers, I constructed my piece. The painting was completed first, while the flowers were added later.
I learned new blending techniques while painting the skin, as I had never painted skin realistically before, and improved at painting very small details. Using bristly brushes, tiny brushes, and a little bit of finesse was key. This piece tested my patience, but the end result was worth it. This piece was a wonderful learning process for me, and I am proud of how it turned out.
